VETERAN'S DAY: Honoring All American Veterans

Veterans Day is the day we honor all military veterans having served in the United States Armed Forces, whether living or deceased from all wars. We honor our veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve, sacrifice, and give their all.

Veterans Day is officially celebrated annually on November 11th in the United States, no matter what day of the week it happens to fall on. (Note, if it falls on a weekend when most non-essential government offices are normally closed, it will then be observed on the following Monday, if the holiday date is a Sunday.  If the holiday falls on Saturday, then it will be observed on Friday.)

Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day.  "In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day".   The name was changed in 1954 when on June 1, President Eisenhower signed legislation that changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day.

The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held annually on November 11, at Arlington National Cemetery beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns. Not everyone is able to attend this ceremony.  Many communities choose to hold Veterans Day parades or other celebrations allowing more people to participate in their local areas.
